Rules
- To ensure both the safety of our guests and to maintain our liquor license, we cannot allow any outside alcoholic beverages into the event grounds. Any teams that are spotted with outside alcoholic beverages on the grounds will be automatically forfeited and will be asked to leave the premises.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- Dogs are not allowed at MUDD Volleyball, so please leave Fido at home.
- Please help us continue to keep our costs low and show our appreciation to Majestic Commercenter by cleaning up after your garbage and ensuring that all trash ends up in the appropriate trash receptacles.
Teams
- Full payment and Roster Waiver form is due by July 28th. Space is limited so register today!
- A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to hold your registration for MUDD Volleyball.
- Proof of matching gifts submissions must be provided to the March of Dimes by the date of the Team Captain Party. If proof of matching forms is not submitted the team will be dropped.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
- 8:00am – Team captain Check-in / 9:00am – Play begins
- Recreational format / Underhand serves only
- One day, round robin, with single elimination play-offs
- Six teams play each other on one net for a total of 5 matches. The winner at each net advances.
- Round robin and play-off matches consist of one game to 15 points or 20 minutes, whichever comes first.
- If played to full points, the game must be won by 2 points or by reaching 17 points first.
- A 3-minute warm up period is permitted before each game.
- Teams change sides after 8 points.
- The Winner for each net is round robin determined by (in order):
- Winner of most matches at net
- Winner of head to head matches
- Net points of all matches played
TEAMS
- Each team must have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 players on the court.
- Teams are co-ed with at least 50% of your players on the court being female.
- All team members must sign the waiver/roster. Team t-shirts are distributed only after the March of Dimes has received your completed waiver/roster. Team forfeits games if waiver/roster is not on file.
- All players MUST be 18 or older.
- Legal identification will be required to purchase alcohol at the event.
- Additions to a team are accepted only AFTER they are added to the waiver/roster.
- PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE COURT WITHOUT SHOES.
REFEREEING
- Teams losing a match will referee the next match whether in round robin or the play-off.
- Teams that fail to referee will result in subtracting one win and adding one loss to their record.
- All judgment calls will be the decision of the referee. Tournament assistants will handle disputes. All decisions are final.
REPORTING MATCH RESULTS
- Match results for all games are to be reported to the Tournament Assistant by the winning team.
- Results must include the scores of both teams.
FIRST MATCH OF THE DAY
- Team 3 plays team 5 of each net.
- Team 1 referees the first match.
- Team 1 is responsible for getting the ball from the Tournament Assistant at the pre-game team captain’s meeting.
SERVICE
- Only underhand serves allowed.
- Male and female players rotate on the court and at service. Remaining players may rotate in service position and remain in for 6 to 8 positions.
- The server at the beginning of each service must call out the score. Failure to do so results in a side-out. Each team is allowed one warning.
- No more than 3 players may be at the net at one time.
BALL IN PLAY
- The COED rule is in effect! When the ball is contacted more than once by a team, at least one of these contracts must be made by a female. A block doesn’t count as one of the three hits.
- Crossing under the net is permitted unless it interferes with the play of the opposing team or is ruled flagrant.
- All net violations will be called.
- Open hand hits are permitted providing that the ball is not caught, thrown, or otherwise directed.
- Blocking or attacking (hitting) the serve is not legal and will result in side-out.
WEATHER POLICY
- Upon the consultation of the MUDD committee, the tournament may be cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions. In the case of cancellation, the tournament winner is determined by:
- Still in the play-off
- Win/lose record from round robin play
- Net points of matches finished
OTHER TOURNAMENT RULES / POLICIES
- No upholstered furniture allowed.
- Shoes must be worn at all times; Bring duct tape.
- No alcoholic beverages can be brought onto the grounds
- No glass, No grills, No open fires permitted.
- No dogs allowed.
- Clean up before you leave!
- No refunds.
